Methodology. Data queried from the OpenAlex API (api.openalex.org), 2026-03-05. Works filtered by: language:en, type:article, primary_topic.domain.id:2 (Social Sciences domain, which includes Arts & Humanities). Two formulations tested: (1) “[field] literature” as an exact phrase; (2) an expanded OR query combining literature, literary, poetics, aesthetics, fiction, poetry, and prose variants. Validation samples showed 0% STEM noise under both formulations after the domain filter.  •  Known limitation: Pre-2000 coverage for Japanese-field journals (Monumenta Nipponica, Journal of Japanese Studies, Japanese Language and Literature) is substantially thinner than for European-literature journals (French Studies: 32,442 works indexed; all four Japanese-field journals combined: <9,000). Pre-2000 Japanese counts should be treated as lower bounds.  •  2020–24 bar is an incomplete decade (through end of 2024).
