This visualization shows the co-paneling network at Modern Language Association (MLA) conferences. Nodes represent scholars; edges connect people who have appeared on the same panel or session. Node size reflects degree (number of unique co-panelists), and color indicates primary institutional affiliation.
Use the year slider to focus on specific time periods. The Top-N slider controls how many nodes are displayed (by degree). The edge weight filter removes weak connections.
Co-paneling edges are computed from MLA presentation records in the project database. Two scholars share an edge if they appeared on the same session/panel in at least one year.
Force: D3.js v7 force simulation with adaptive parameters (weaker charge for larger networks). Timeline: X-axis fixed to first-appearance year.
The Top-N slider selects the N highest-degree nodes in the year-filtered network. The institution filter can restrict to specific institutions.
